And to think I WAS a McCain supporter!
The language about "cartoon depictions" is REALLY "over-the-top." Any law with THIS sort of wording would make the classic cartoon of the Old Man of the previous year giving way to the nude baby of the New Year a FELONY... Not to mention all the cute little baby pictures of baby in the bath, and that sort of thing.

I agree child pornography is detestable, disgraceful and the people who practice are the lowest of the low... but passing laws that try to cover every angle, rather than allowing for some COMMON SENSE are really like "throwing out the baby with the bath water!"

I also remember when some of the earlier anti-child-pornography legislation came out, it made it illegal to even DEPICT sexual acts by someone under legal age, even if the actors doing the depiction were OF legal age, which threatened to create a REAL MESS for Hollywood, as even PG movies like "Blue Lagoon" would become felonious...

Think about this... Teenagers, whether adults approve of it or not, regularly engage in kissing, heavy petting, and sex. And TV shows and movies, in order to have a semblance of reality -- and for that matter, quite often, in order to tell a story very often which is one of a MORAL nature against kids having sex -- have no choice but to depict such acts at some level (even if they don't actually show any nude body parts, they still often find ways of depicting the fact that the act is going on in such a way that it fits TV and/or PG movie standards)... However, legislation such as this threatens to make anything like THAT felonious, as well, as it did with movies like "The Blue Lagoon" in the past, which simply depicted what would NATURALLY happen if two youngsters of the opposite sex grew up together isolated on an island.

We definitely need strong laws protecting children from the vicious predators who prey on them for sexually deviant purposes. But STUPID LAWS are not the answer.
