That would be great if DRM
is not longer needed. However, I don't think you can compare a CD to a music download. Not quite. You can't share a CD with 30 friends with a few clicks of your mouse. Heck in the days of albums there was know need to worry until tape came along and even then it was not a huge threat until the day of CDs and CD burners. Even then the copy/share rate was probably acceptable compared to where they see it going as a file on the internet. I can't blame them quite honestly. DRM was not a good alternative to the physical media, granted, but I suppose from the artists to the record company, there was a worry and need to protect their IP from being too easily stolen.

It would be interesting to see what the cream of the crop does if DRM goes away and the alternative cuts their paycheck by 3/4 per song. Seems like it could have a negative impact.

I'm not one for this push toward the public being in control of what we see. The content is going to be awful, just awful. I think music and video alike need to be left to the professionals and it's worth paying for, always has been. Just look at YouTube. One of the most popular "home" productions turned out to be a professional production. Other than that, you take away all the stolen IP and that pretty much leaves the Jacka$$ rejects and America's NOT so funny home videos. If it gets to the point where YouTube style media delivery is the norm, it's probably still going to come from and be controlled by professionals. At least it should and I think people will always be willing to pay for good entertainment.
