When I was griping about DRM it was often pointed out that Microsoft simply HAD to implement tilt bits and 30 times a second and Microsoft approved drivers to lock out the hobbyists, but big bad Apple were no different, THEY were pushing DRM, therefore Microsoft are completely exonerated and everyone should pay up and wait for their drivers to be approved. And back comes Jobs' reply.
Microsoft carried more clout with Hollywood, with their 90% share of the desktop market. They chose not to challenge the studios, seeing a golden opportunity for another upgrade path, another chance to stifle 3rd party driver vendors by introducing Microsoft approval, and then they built a DRM system which starts with the assumption that you are a thief and checks that you aren't 30 times a second.
DRM can't work. This is about corporations trying to OWN music. It transcends OS squabbles. In polarising the DRM argument into Apple V Windows, a lot of common ground is lost. DRM affects everyone who enjoys music. Corporations can not be allowed to OWN music, end of story. - Posted by: whisperycat Posted on: 02/06/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
