Attention?
Doctorow suggests that producing free e-books makes commercial sense to authors. Godin agrees, adding, "...people are going to respond and pay you with something really valuable: their attention."

Hmm.

Next time I make a purchase, I'll tell the salesperson, "I'm going to pay you with something more valuable than cash. I'm going to give you my attention. I'll tell all my friends too. You'll have more attention than you know what to do with. Now let's have the keys to that car."

Am I missing something? Nowhere does this article identify exactly how authors will get paid...money.
