The amounts are staggering
I did some calculations on the number of pages I visit on average daily and the amount of storage for those web pages as well as the amout of storage for other files and documents I download and I found it amazing that I access over a terrabyte of data per month, compressed. For the system to work as they are wanting this data would have to be stored real time otherwise the system could be tricked into recording different data that is made available after I visit a web site. To record that much data at my current connection rate would require a storage device dedicated to me. Granted this could be a pooled operations, but if an ISP has say several million customers then we?re talking about the ISP needing to store daily pentabytes of data since I don?t consider myself a power user. Since the people they want to nab are already using stealth technology to thwart snooping a total capture scheme would be needed. Of course those that they?re after would always remain one step ahead as they always seem to be. The big question is who is going to pay for all of this hardware?

Yeah. Like ISPs don't retain data already.  Mr. Roboto | 01/18/07
