I trust google as much as I'd trust any big corporation.
Bottom line - google is a company which exists to make money just like any other big company out there. Big companies too often resort to less than ethical tactics (mircosoft anyone?) to make more money, squish competition, acquire more power, and get more people to use their products.

I'm not in the least bit surprised if google resorts to underhand tactics. Think of it - almost every aspect of our online experience is touched by google, from search, mail, documents, calendar, and the rest of it. Do you really want this much data in the hands of someone you can't trust? That too, after google publicly claimed never to delete any data they acquire?
