If this had been a result of some sort of
overly broad over-reaching search, I guess I would agree. Certainly our privacy has been under attack these past few years in ways that are getting pretty intrusive.

However, I don't think this is one of those. It seems that the company had reason to believe this guy was involved in some issues that it's customers were having, the police got a search warrant and seized the relevant material and that search appears to have paid off with a conviction of a person was apparently doing the crime.

This isn't a case of a phone company turning over truckloads of phone records or even of a search engine company giving up scads of searches. It's a very specific and narrow set of info, and seems to be acceptable to even my relatively Libertarian heart.

Unless I missed something, which I am certain someone will point out shortly.
