How long...
before this is used on law-abiding citizens?

don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Myspace was instrumental in catching a criminal. But its always a difficult line to draw.

Take for example, software activation. It's not a matter of national security, safety of citizens, or any other means of causing harm to others. It hit the forefront with Office 2000 and Windows XP, the two most pirated programs at the time. The problem is that over the past six years, it's gotten to the point where I now have to activate demo programs and even freeware, and it shows no signs of becoming less popular as time progresses. And for the record, you can still find virtually every activation-requiring program running around on the internet.

How long before access logs can be accessed by any moe, larry, and curly can get this information for any reason?
