Though I am a Windows user and have tried several distros of Linux, I would agree that our kids will indeed need to experience technology rather than just take it as fact.

Seeing the results of their work actually operating is much more interesting and insightful than simply reading some text or returning meaningless answers to questions.

The power of the internet is in how we can teach others to leverage it to arrive at a result that is greater than the some of the energy put in.

For example rather than simply having a wiki where people put in information we actually frame the question such that the information is found for us.

Think of how a replicator works in Star Trek, I know kinda a strange example, but...an item is generated from fundamental elements combined using a recipe of sorts that allows seemingly static elements combine dynamically in order to satisfy a request.

How cool would that be. That's where our education should go.
