How about some changes in teaching
I'm working with jhs students in robotics, checkout www.fll.org to see what goes on. I'm a mentor now but next weekend I'll be the tech judge at the area regional contest. Since I'm a retired engineer/technician I'm allowed to sort of teach. These students are doing hands on. They design, build and program robots using a Legos for school kit which includes a programmable "brick." Maybe if more engineering people would get involved we could get young students interested in the sciences; also maybe, if the rules could be changed to allow degreed or certified people to help teach in this area without having to become a certified teacher more might get involved. It is a great pleasure to see when a student or a whole class grasps a concept and the "light bulb" turns on.
