Pretty accurate
I have been a Tivo owner for about 4 years now. I own a Humax box (which is a Tivo with an integrated DVD burner) and have a lifetime subscription to the Tivo service (which is no longer offered BTW).

I love the arrangement I have. At this point I get the Tivo service for free and my Humax works just as well as the day I bought it. My only gripe with it is the tiny 80 GB hard drive. I'm sorely tempted to upgrade it to 500 GB, but it works well enough as it is to keep me from getting off the couch long enough to effect the upgrade.

The extras are nice, like being able to play my MP3 collection over WiFi from my file server. Also being able to do slide shows from photos on my file server is nice. And the integration with internet radio is fun to play with. And the interactive games are fun. And and and... BUT, I would not buy a Tivo today for these features.

I don't know if I would buy it without the lifetime subscription option at all. I hate paying for yet-another-subscription. I already pay a heafty subscription fee to my sattelite provider, who provides the same kind of information about programming that Tivo uses.

Bottom line, I love my Tivo for the reasons stated in the article. I can pause live TV, I can create season passes to shows I like, and I can easily jump over commercials. THAT'S worth paying for. All the other stuff is chrome. Nice pretty chrome.
