While I understand your POV, I think we should step back and view the larger picture. Google, M$, Novell, etc. are playing a numbers game. There are 100's of millions of users globally. Of those masses upon masses, only a comparatively small number have the interest, intelligence, training or time to look beyond the "user friendly" GUI. All they really want is an internet/entertainment appliance. They don't question inter-operability, DRM, multi-core, Linux/Windows/OSX, or any of the other myriad minutiae that interest the readers of these articles.
When it comes to the decision-makers of the IT corporate world, we are the worker drones. Our opinions matter little to them, except as far as it enables their goals of maintaining/increasing marketshare and ROI. Their focus is selling more product to the global masses... and ensuring conditions for future sales.
In other words, our user opinions don't matter to them as we are an infinitesimally small segment of the population and aren't counted in their considerations.
This doesn't mean that you aren't smart, cute or lovable. It just means that there are those 100's of millions out there who will continue to buy and use their products without complaining.
