Google wants data in the cloud, not on the desktop

You have given reasons for caching data locally, but NO reason for not

keeping it online as well, where you will then be able to access it from any computer or device connected to the net. Also, remember that the speeds connecting us to the net are going up as we speak. Some applications may not be vialble as online apps for a few years, as back end processing power and network speeds ramp up. There is an all out war going on to add back end processing power and bandwidth. Does anybody know the average number of servers brought online by Google every day?

And, do not forget that future web applications will be able to tap in to the power of super computers on the back end and terabytes of data, with 10x more bandwidth than we have right now. Future web applications will be able to do a lot of things that desktop applications can not do right now.
