"Microsoft paid a price because they were good." What they were good at is using their dominate market share to force resellers to not place competing products on their desktops or face higher prices.

And...the were investing in some of these companies to insure that only their products were sold.

Now, I spent 15 years with Sun and I have no idea what you mean by indicating that they started illegally...I do remember that windows was basically stolen from Apple...do remember the lawsuit that Microsoft settled? Bill Gates shows up to a meeting with Steve Jobs with a copy of Office for Mac under his arm...the message was pretty clear...settle the suit or this is the last copy of Office you will ever see...sounds like abuse of a monopoly position to me.
