No thanks.
UNICEF does some good things, and some not good at all things. Like the attempt to define a Treaty on the Rights of Children. This one is the one that was all over the media for including the right to sue parents under certain circumstances. Furthermore, UNICEF was, I believe, involved in some programs that pushed contraception and even forced sterilization on women in countries that didn't want it...if I recall correctly, there are some well-documented cases in Venezuela, and other countries in S. American and Africa. Not to mention the China situation...too often UN aid is now tied to population control programs in countries with large populations like China.

What people don't realize, is that although, yes, the population has boomed in the last century, it is not expected to continue. It is not due to having too many children, but largely due to better nutrition and medicine having led to longer lifespans. Never in the history of the world has the lifespan lengthened by as large a span as it did in the last 100 years. That's why the population has grown that quickly. Even UN admits that its own estimates show the world population leveling off around 2040 and then even slowly declining.

So...why do we think the UN or any of us has the right to tell someone else whether they can have a child or not? That is not only sad and absurd, but an egregious human rights violation.

And thus, I cannot support UNICEF, nor any other UN agencies that have been involved in the related programs.
