This is about making Big Boys Cry
In the US a blogger or journalist can pretty much disparage any public figure. If the Big Boy doesn't like it they must remove themselves from public life. In Europe and China any remark regarding any Big Boy, be he/she corporate or government, evil or good, can ruin the poster regardless of the validity of the post. This is because big bucks from the big boy and his friends can be used in law suits against the Blogger and unless the Blogger has wealth or buisiness insurance to defend himself, his family wealth is at risk.

Of course some Bloggers are also Big Boys. Here financial wealth can secure intellectual tallent to sell sickness to the masses.

The selling involves tricks exposed by Abramoff such as Astroturfing, which is the artificial creation of what appears to be grass roots support for a notion or product. And of course spreading FUD - (fear, uncertainty and doubt). The game is an old one that has the Big Boy hiring lawyers and lobby firms to write letters to the editors and blog.

The former (letters to the editors) has very little oversight. It is old school for robber barrons.

This was explained somewhat in Al Gore's Inconvienent truth where it was proven that the "fair" reporting of both sides of the global warming issue was far from that. The general press had about 50 percent pro and 50 percent con where the scientific press had 1 percent saying global warming was natural and 99 percent saying poor human stewardship was the cause.

Bill Gates' father has published in the Washington State Voters pamphlet that the super rich (he refers to his son jokingly) benefit unnaturally from the public commons. The public commons includes all the infrastructure for a polite society including but not limited to the court systems and the Internet.

Europe has a legal system that protects its population from robber barrons. China executes its white collar criminals and watches wealth accumulation closely, assuming anti social (unethical or illegal) behavior may have been used.

We in the US have neither the court systems, which are influence peddled, nor the executives, which have bee corrupted, to deal with white collar criminals.

My hope is that in drafting more rules regarding Internet behavior, the above be taken into consideration.

We tollerate scalliwags (pirates) in polite society. But we expect them to reform or leave public life eventually and we do not want them teaching others their wrong ways.

On Halloween, consider that the Wiken's provide no moral code that is written. This religion is not unlike the Microsoft religion. There is no meaningful documentation on API behavior; no way of judging the quality of outcome.
