Pleeze...the UN?
"But the diplomatic subtext is more pointed: Does the U.S. government have too much influence over how Internet addresses are allocated and domain names are assigned?"

No...how can you have too much influence over the object of your own creation? The U.S. is perfectly legit to keep control.

Furthermore, the very purpose of the UN makes it the absolutely last body that ought to be in charge of anything like the internet. The UN is a place for bureacratic wrangling. Technology moves fast; politics are usu about creating stalemates. Do we want an internet governance that doesn't keep up with its current issues? Do we want corrupt little dictatorships influencing its direction? Why the h*ll would any decent engineer want to hand anything to the auspices of the UN.

Besides the internet, the UN in general is a corrupt organization, ridden with influence peddling. And they have a Hegelian-Marxist secular philosophy that drives their activities, despite the fact that 90% of the world's population is religious. It's a body of self-absorbed "illuminati" who consider themselves the ruling elite of the world. To h*ll with that notion. Localize government, don't globalize it. Take back your rights. IOW, keep control, not just of the internet, but every other issue that has been farmed up the ladder to "authorities" farther and farther from home.
