Google Custom Search User

I have been working on building my own Google custom search engine in an attempt to understand the pratical application of these tools.

I chose a subject: Plasma TV and set out to catgorize all of the information I had gathered relating to my own search and eventual purchase of a plasma tv. I segragated all the inforamtion into categories and then tranlated them into refinements in the custom search engine.

I have taken advantage of one of the key features that provides a mechanism to build a wrapper around terms that are placed in the search box. I was able to completely rewrite the query command behind the scenes combining and appending various search criteria to control the search results. For example I have a link for Buying Guides, but I also have a link for Reveiws. When you select the link for Buying Guides you will not get results for Reviews. This was a matter of separating the CSE results into logical category's if you will. This streamlines the amount of search results within a given search criteria. I have setup a multitude of these refinement links to accomplish this.

Generally setup is simple point and click for the novice search engine builder. You really need to do a lot of test searching and be able to write html code to really take full advantage of these tools. The result will be a really nice search engine that people will appreciate.

If you want to take a look at the results search Google for "Plasma TV Custom Search" and select the url with the word webperc.
