Regarding the many comments protesting IBM' lawsuit: Get real!
If a company cannot benefit from patent protection, there is no way to afford inventions and research. IBM creates more innovations than any other corporation, by orders of magnitude. Are they they not allowed to profit from their work? Should writers not be granted copyrights to profit from their work? Should programmers work for free? If you adopt the position that all 'intellectuai property' should be free, how is this different from adopting the position that the result of other work should be free? The ditchdigger should be paid, but the man who invents a ditchdigging machine should not?
