Where is the Damage?
There is no damage to anyone with what Google is doing. However, Microsoft damages its customers by not following Google. The reason the URL link is important is that this is not only the web method of citation but also it is the way every student and author now sites work taken from the web even when the end work is not electronically based. Works like book reports and abstracts (for example)

From a business man's perspective, you can bring legal action for anything. For it to mean something there also has to be damage to which you can be compensated for. Where is the damage? All I see is advantage to the party being cited. Its like advertisement to them.

When you see this kind of legal action, and the stories about them, you have to think strategy. Suppose that Microsoft wants to delay Google's efforts. Suppose through an organizational structure not unlike Enron and Abramoff's the money is laudered to organizations that are willing to file law suits even when no damages can be demonstrated. I think the enablers of this kind of stratigic law suit should be disbarred.
