Both sides have valid arguments, but labels are ultimately wrong here
Bottom line, nobody likes a copyright infinger because it relegates us to working for free, so if you wouldn't, why would you expect performers, producers, sound engineers, marketing people, etc. to do so?

I think everyone sees that.

But... in Russia, the law states that a central body pays out a *fixed* fee for copyrights. In Russia, they don't use free market dynamics to dictate price-- they fix it so consumers don't get raped. However, companies (and this is a big reason why most non-politically connected, large-margin companies don't like doing business in Russia) are limited in their profit taking there. Bottom line, there is a central body that taxes the business directly, and then pays out royalties.

Enter fatcats from stage left.

Who likes to be told how much profit they can, or can't take? They can't enter the market on *their* terms, so they don't want to enter at all.

Since somebody else has stolen their thunder and is making BIG bucks from it-- now they want to enter the market.

Bottom line, by not entering the market they force the gov't to adopt their terms, but when somebody else goes into business within the gov't's terms, they call their buddies at US finance companies for help.

Can you say AMEX? MAstercard? Discover? or any of the other multitude of cards out there?

LOL...
