...definitely missing the point here. It's not necessarily to take Microsoft on directly in the business market, but to indirectly compete with them in the home market. See, most people with MS Office fall into three catagories -
1) "I don't mind spending way too much for something that isn't worth it."
2) "I bought it with my machine because it was less expensive"/I'm a student that got the student bookstore discount."
3) "I downloaded it. Look at the nifty installer thing that also lets me not enter a code."
Most home users won't need a presentation program, such as PowerPoint. They will use their ISP's online tools for personal website content creation or get something else besides FrontPage. They will get one of those cheap "PrintShop" type things for DTP (and who really uses sucky Publisher when doing something for corporate anyway?) Most ISP's come with their own mail program or advocate the use of Outlook Express. And most people don't know about or don't care about Access, SharePoint, and that other thing...Oh yeah, InfoPath.
Think about the home user. They count too. - Posted by: nix_hed Posted on: 10/11/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
