The Firefox developer team needs to do a performance evaluation of the
binary. The heap (under UNIX / Linux) grows continuously and worst this is Resident Set Size that grows. I suspect that some thread is walking the heap continuously. This prohibits the release of not needed pages and the entire system becomes deficient. Page I/O results in and the entire system slows down.

Other issues have to do with the handling of embedded objects: there seem to be at a rapid thread switching in the sense of polling. This unecessary wake up and block of IDLE threads is extremely wasteful at times and it may simply indicate logical flaws.

I am a strong proponent of FF and mozilla but when executables become as complex and as large as FF, the developers need to find out where resoures are wasted and if the multithreading can get more light-weight.

There are many tools for instrumentation and perfomance analysis of binaries. I hope that the team will leverage them.
