Analysis of WP failure incorrect
The reason is that WordPerfect didn't have a Windows version once Windows 3.0/1 was released. They stuck with text based 5.1 way too long. When they scrambled to get a windows version (6.0) out it was inferior because they didn't have the time to make it really good.

Hindsight is 20/20 but the fact is they missed the wave. That said, I suspected that WP would be in trouble when Windows 3.0 released by 3.1 I knew they were.

Very little had to do with custom "hooks".
Other companies (though smaller with less resources) were ready. We released very shortly after and are still in existence today.

They weren't the only ones. Every product that delayed getting a windows version out suffered.
