I disagree partly
Somethings that you learn will never become irrelevant. I am talking about the basics, the "first principles" to borrow a term from mathematics. If you understand the basics of computers, computer architecture, compiler design, assembly languages, and high level languages then you can adapt to any new technology/programming language without too much effort. Hell, I studied C++ in university, but I've worked with programs in Fortran, C, C++, Java, C#, VB, and more obscure languages. All of these new "high-level" web languages such as Ruby are just fluff.
