Bingo. State-of-the-art computer design requires us to recognize the reality of security problems involving Microsoft products. Where it is true that even with Linux, a hack is a question of when rather than a question of if, Microsoft products are hacked weekly. Linix, what yearly if even that?

AJAX and Active-X are security holes that can be pluged partially at the server level with a box (F5 for example) in the configuration. That box runs Linux or something other than a Microsoft OS and the packets are released when approprate to the more vulnerable Microsoft OS based equipment.
It is a partial solution.

The better one involves virtualization. Here a Linux box hosts multiple copies of Microsoft Windows OS product. Linux prevents the hackers from accessing the hardware. If one of the copies of the Microsoft OS product gets hacked, it is switched out for an uninfected copy that is patched for the new virus. This model is not unlike the F5 one only it can be cost effectively implemented on client computers as well.

The solution on the client can also be just to use Java controls. The Java Virtual Machine affords the protection as well as significant speed on this years model computers which are multiprocessor multicore and benefit from asyncronous threading. But this may not be obvious if you implement the control in the IE browser as Microsoft claims is necessary. The security issues of Active-X require Active-X to be scripted, but that is not true with Java controls because these are already secured by the JVM.
