"...with ideas stolen at every step of the way and hailed as "innovations" by Microsoft."
Please, everyone steals ideas in this business. If they didn't we'd still be using VisiCalc. Software is simply an implementation of shared ideas and a presentation model that tries to appeal to the greatest number. A whole bunch of folks try it and some succeed while most fail.
We haven't seen much real innovation (at the desktop level) in years, simply the logical progression of ideas and implementations. This concept seems to have been lost on the USPTO. If PARC and IBM had secured their ideas (PARC windows and mice, IBM PC-BIOS and buss) the entire computer industry would likely be a very different entity.
Give credit where due please. For all their uncountable and unpardonable sins, the folks at MS have taken a garbage collection of their software and everyone else's hardware and, for the most part, kept it glued together so that it mostly works. It was a noble goal that everything should work together and play nicely and be able to exchange painlessly. Then the creeps showed up to spoil it for everyone. - Posted by: OldGreyGeek Posted on: 08/23/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
