#1 form of advertising
Word of mouth is the #1 form of advertising. It can be good or bad for your business. Like many people on here, I will tell someone, "Go Google it." This is proceeded by going to google.com. Googling is something I do multiple times on a daily bases. I can't believe they would want to stop me from "googling." I don't think they should be upset over this, but rather proud that they've become such a household word.

Next case, when Rollerblades came out, look at how hot they were because everyone said, "I'm going rollerblading." They made a big fuss, said that people should say, "inline skates" because Rollerblading is a trademarked word. Once they got everyone off their Rollerblades and onto online skates, the fad started to die out. It's not often that Rollerblades or inline skates are referred to anymore -- they killed the household word like a dagger through the heart.

Next case, Kleenex. How often do you say, "I need a facial tissue," rather than, "I need a Kleenex." Kleenex has made a big fuss over their trademark, but this is one household word that won't ever go away.

The true hope is let people get to the point where they realize the word is a trademark and treat it as such rather than the company trying to change the way we speak. Let it be word of mouth advertising for them. Be respectful of the trademark. Everyone play nice in the sandbox. Otherwise, the trademark may find it's mark fading from our houses.
