Blocking of MySpace at the Workplace
I give the under 30s high marks for MySpace as it has the potential of doing so much good by getting the word out on wrong doing and influencing purchasing choices.

However "security" policies are being written to prevent the use of things like MySpace at government and corporate organizations.

The fear is related to whistleblowing and the status quo. A recent Supreme Court decision has made it clear that US Citizens can only be fired if they follow procedures for Whistleblowing outlined in employment manuals. Those procedures protect only officers and facilitate removal of those who speak truth from the work place.

Truth communicators can not be fired - apparently - for communications - even during work time (within reason) - that are set up and legal for all US citizens, such as commincation on public BLOGs like MySpace.

It appears that long established telephone laws are being enforced for computer based communications. This makes sence because AT&T made it clear that telephony is computing. (Remember that Linux is a derivitive of Unix and Unix was developed by AT&T as was the C language).

Telephone laws have long supported the use of a company phone for personal business such as coordinating schedules with friends and family and ordering goods and services of personal nature. You can not be fired for such use if it is reasonable use. The same will and really does apply to email and blogs and chat rooms.

We will be seeing all kinds of memos and notifications from bosses regarding appropriate use of computing resources pretending otherwise but most of that will be FUD. Anything in writing should be saved as it damns the writer in any legal action.

Google will need to have a staff of legals working on the issue of MySpace use at the work place and ad blocking none the less. A real democracy and strong economy is facilitated by what Fox and Google are doing. This however likely is not supportive of keeping the rich and powerful rich and powerful.
