Attitudes from cases.
Consider the case of the couple in which (as I recall) the woman (girl?) was old enough to be married in one State and not another. So, with parental permission, they went to the other State and were married.
On return, the husband, who was also in his teens, was arrested and convicted for statutory rape.

Everything that you say about impositions on felons must be applied to this husband. His conviction will be damaging for the rest of his life.

The problem with laws made in outrage is that the laws apply to more people than those who cause the outrage.

Perhaps laws should be written and interpretted for the most rather than least sympathetic cases. The selection of cases to come before the Supreme Court is usually the result of careful strategizing.

Remember that this is a Congress that criminalized cartoons because they might have the potential to excite a pederast.

Soon there will be a law that owner of a site is subject to criminal prosecution if a minor might be misled in some way. As decided by whom, and on what grounds?
Intent may not be a sufficient defense.

Law is a blunt instrument. Much as I approve the goals, I am not certain that the way the goals are being met is effective and just.
