Tur agressively defends his material
Robert Tur and his company Los Angeles News Service have a history of aggressively (and successfully) protecting their copyrights. Since copyright violation is criminal in nature the fines are set by statute and have nothing to do with the amount of money earned by the violator(s).

As noted in another post I believe that this is a "fishing expedition" and that filing this case is a way to get YouTube to identify the poster which will allow Mr. Tur and LVNS to go after them.

Additionally, Mr. Tur may feel that there are principles at stake (protection of copyrighted material) the defense of which are worth any cost.
