Okay, this article is just completely ridiculous. First, it calls out the current movie download sites for selling low quality versions of movies at slow download rates for the same price as a high quality DVD (plus with the DVD you get all the extras, and unlike the download, it's not locked down with so much DRM that you can't lend it to a friend or re-sell it). Shame on those sites. Bad sites.

Oh wait, who owns those sites? Turns out it's the movie studios ("...five of the studios that bankrolled Movielink, including Paramount Pictures, Sony and Universal Studios..."). So let's lay blame where blame is deserved, upon the movie studios for setting absurd prices for inferior products. Gee, and they haven't sold well, what a shocker!

So, in order to correct this, they're getting new partners, and everything will be better, right? Oh wait, let's look at their pricing:

http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-6088265.html?tag=nl

"Guba customers can rent a film for $1.79 per day or pay $9.99 to own an older title. Newer movies cost $19.99. All the content is protected by Microsoft-developed digital rights management software."

"Sony's films are expected to go on sale at Guba on Wednesday. Newer releases will cost $19.99, while older titles will start at $9.99."

Oh boy. For more than the price of a DVD, I can get a poor quality version of a movie without any extras! A version I can't watch wherever I want, and can't lend to a friend and can't re-sell! A version with no DVD extras! A version where I have to pay for the bandwidth to download it, and it will take me hours!

Wow, that's really going to be a winner!
