No company is going to pay for your connection to the web. They are paying for bandwidth on their end. The upstream. They can not and will not flood your connection. Websites can't force their content on you. We have Spyware and Adware for that reason.
Google could by up Terabits of bandwidth and it wouldn't do them any good if you never visited their site. That is like buying 5 Million copies of Windows XP and installing only 20. Same goes for you. You pay for 5 Mb/s Downstream, but I know for a fact that you don't near that much. I think on average, I probably use around 16 Kb/s. I have 5 MB/s when I want it, but I don't use it ALL the time. I don't have a reason to, nor do I have the storage to do so. Just downloading 16 Kb/s means that I have downloaded around 50 GB or so in that month.
A Broadband company can't "limit" access to a company. They can push a request for their site to the back of the line, but even then, we are talking a couple seconds or so.
Smaller companies don't require the massive amounts of bandwidth that Google and eBay and Microsoft require. If they try to push that much out right off the start, they are growing way to quickly and will probably burn up their servers with requests.
As they get bigger, they will be able to pay for more bandwidth "If they need to" and grow as such.
As for the Internet, here is how this works. You see, you pay to recieve lots of data, but you pay very little to upload data. Asynchronimous works that way. Paying to upload more costs more. And the more you have to upload, the further up the food chain you have to pay. Where customers have to pay for that little connection to their house, Corporations have to pay for connections between Data Centers and to the backbones and for backbone bandwidth.
Youtube is a item likely to quickly be gobbled up. It is too lucrative of an asset not to be. Some one will quickly turn them into a profitable means and stop Google from taking over that market.
For some reason, I don't hear about Verizon or Sprint, or AT&T making record profits. Go take on the Oil companies if you want to be so damn rightous about that. - Posted by: nucrash Posted on: 06/28/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
