Not sure that's the plan
The one factor you don't take into consideration is that many at the RIAA think 1) they can buy enough legislation to one day stop p2p (essentially putting the genie back into the bottle, and 2) they want the iTunes store to die off quietly.

Raising prices will do that. Then once there's no more competition, they can start their own store with horrible, onerous terms, and they think they'll succeed.

Stupid, greedy people.
