You just refuse to acknowledge the honest cow-buying public eh?
"That's what reviews are for, yes? Wait, nevermind; Shrek got four stars."

At least you saw reason to your own silly argument. Reviewers are always biased. Why? Because they feel differently about what entertains THEM as opposed to another person. They may land someone who shares the same feeling but we're talking about subjective matter here. So yes, entertainment reviews are useless.

"And since when have copyrights gotten out of hand? Last I checked, the system has remained fundamentally the same since the release of the VCR, when people paid money for copies of movies that they could watch at home."

You're right. It's the media managers who got out of hand with DRM and the like. Classic example is, ironically, Sony with their HiMD format. They decided to implement DRM to the extent that even recordings which were made from a microphone source could not be uploaded more than once from the disc! If the upload failed halfway due to a system crash or whatnot, bad luck.

Unlike the MPAA, however, Sony picked up their ears when we MD users were kicking and screaming about the demise of MD due to this excessive exercise in DRM. What did they eventually do with SonicStage v3.4? They made DRM an optional feature. FINALLY!

Now the question is - going back to your last argument - does this change the structure of movie copyrights? ABSOLUTELY! As opposed to simply being vigilant against piracy without ruining the viewing/listening pleasure of the honest audience, DRM technologies have brought on issues which have disadvantaged the users. If I buy an MP3 player, convert my favourite CD's to MP3's, enjoy it for a while, then I lose/break the unit, I would expect to be able to play those same MP3's on any other branded player I go for. But instead, we have DRM placing restrictions on that too. Sure, there are ways around most of those methods but your average Joe won't know where to begin because they struggled enough just converting the tunes! DRM costs the consumer all the more by reducing the benefit over the money they've paid for. That means less value to the consumer. That means that is all has gotten out of hand. I don't mind owners of intellectual property wanting to protect their creations but there has to be a better way to achieve this.

At least I can sit on the fence in my arguments. What have you done other than take a pee on the other side every time?
