The US Already Tried Nationalized Communications - and it Failed
In the early part of the last century, the United States government nationalized the telecommunications monolopy of AT&T. It was a disaster. Service took a nosedive. The public pressured the government to return AT&T to the shareholders, which the US government finally did. The internet (which started as ARPANET, a government research project) constantly needs more and bigger pipes. Without constant enhancement, the ever-increasing bandwidth demands would drive it to a crawl. It is only commercial interest that motivates carriers to build the bigger pipes. Have the government run it? We'd have the same incompetence, graft, greed, corruption and neglect for customers that the government caused with AT&T 90 years ago. It would be run as well as FEMA!

Those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it.
