Just don't make PayPal's mistakes!

When you talk to merchants about PayPal you are certain to hear horror stories about it and the policies they use AGAINST the merchants.

If a merchant gets a charge back (the buyer didn't pay as agreed) the merchant not only eats the loss, they also get slapped with a penalty. The interesting thing there of course is that you are paying them a fee to process the transaction and they are the ones holding final approval. In other words you pay them to make certain the buyer is qualified but if they make a mistake the merchant gets screwed from both directions.

More hideous is that should something go wrong (your fault, customer fault, no ones fault) PayPal will freeze the merchants account in a heartbeat and it WILL and DOES take months to get it straightened out and un-freeze the account. In many cases PayPal even has the bank where you make your deposits freeze that account too. There are hundreds of horror stories where merchants have had thousands (10's of thousands) of dollars frozen over a $15 purchase.

Should you try to contact PayPal (as a merchant) to resolve the issue you are bluntly told to shut up and they will get to it when they get to it. Many have had to hired lawyers to force them into court just to unfreeze their accounts so they can stay in business. In fact PayPal has been involved with many class action suits brought by merchants and has lost every case, but in no way does that stop them from doing it over and over. (Just a cost of doing business as far as they are concerned.)

The truth is, there are MUCH better ways to do this with credit card processors that charge a LOWER fee than PayPal and my advice is to find a reputable one and go with them...
