- University of California and Microsoft in Bitter Battle
-
The University of California et all are owned 580 Million or so from Microsoft. This owing to multiple court rulings. The author of this article does harm by implying Microsoft and the UC are colaborators on an important project for humanity. Microsoft hasn't even been involved in the project for a year yet. I think they joined less than 8 months ago.
If Microsoft management really wants to do good they should just pay for the technology inappropriately obtained from the University of California at Berkelely. That technology involves the use of Active-X and Applet components on web pages. To avoid paying the money Microsoft management has actually ordered the downgrading of Internet Explorer next month so that such components will only display when first scripted. This additional step requires the rewriting of web pages that already use those components. Microsoft can play better with others. But it will require management level change and abandoning the legal-strategy is job one mentality.
