Ignoring the rather laughable paranoid rantings of the first commenter (though I did get a good laugh out of reading it...), competition for big cable can be, should be, and probably will be a good thing. I'm no fan of the telephone companies, but neither am I a fan of cable companies either. In our area, we now have the choice of getting our TV from a big cable company, semi-big telephone company, or one of the satellite companies. We can get Internet (and soon telephone) from both big cable or semi-big telephone company. Pricing is as good as it gets and our service - in terms of channels and Internet speed - has increased significantly over the past two years as competition has increased.

If the service provided by the phone company does not meet my needs, I'll go to their competitor. That's what competition is all about.
