It's about being able to collect data IF necessary to stop a potential terrorist threat. Nothing more, nothing less.

In the REAL-LIFE example I posted involving the Canadian government, tracking IP addresses could reveal more co-conspiritors.

And my explanation holds true - liberals do want that level of anonymity, you just said so yourself. While your allegory is baseless simply because it isn't even grounded in reality.
