Really, better for them to stay neutral here, but pour money and resources
into Firefox and other alternatives. Actually, as I understand, it was Google that enabled Opera to offer a free version without advertising by paying them for search referals. Apple probably does not need help with Safari, other than joint marketing and making sure all Google properties function correctly with Safari.

But, I would be extremely surprised if Google was not working on a rich web applications framework that could be added to any of the alternative browsers.
