For whom the Bells toll
Yes, puns of this can be brutal and un-called for, but I think it necessary that we all begin the Pavlovian process of associating Telcos with pain. The links between big government and big business prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are inseprarable global entities that are here for good. Plato said the very nature of a society implies that certain individual rights must make way for the rights of the collective. By accepting the industrial revolution, we have all given in to volume pricing that comes from mass manufacturing of goods. The progression from self-sufficiency to complete dependency follows logically. By giving up the responsibility to produce things for ourselves in favor of buying cheaper goods we have created the Wal-Marts and AT&Ts and the entire global business arena which excercises so much control over us. Now that we are dependent on jobs and paychecks instead of skills, we have become slaves to convenience, which a friend of mine recently quipped, make convenient slaves. Big government is just another organization that seeks survival at whatever cost. Increasingly, though I will continue to weigh in on the side of freedom, I believe it is simply too late.
