You are right. They didn't buy railroads.
Thank-you for correcting me. I am glad somebody is paying attention. (It's been years since I read the story on the Standard Oil.)

Though if they were given money when their competitors shipped oil, and also given their competitors' business records (waybills), they sure were TREATED like they owned the railroads. Very bizarre.

In any case, SOME regulation was needed to stop an unfair, uncompetitive situation that was bad for the nation.

Or I suppose you would allow the high-speed interstate highways to be used only by the big trucking companies, while the small upstarts only get the slow bumpy roads.

And you keep saying that the little guys pay for the big guys, when that's obviously not the case if you look at rates charged now for monthly data transfer.

That's right, the net is neutral now, and that's the way it should stay.
