I may be the world's foremost conspiracy theorist, but even I don't see the "shooter on the grassy knoll" in this.

I would think MSFT would want everyone to have zippidy-doo-dah fast internet so they could d/l pre-paid dvds-full of software, and MSFT would no longer even have to supply a disk, box and install flyer.

Rather like the "boot Knoppix - install Debian" O'Reilly hack I tried that (a) never worked and (b) brought the network I was on to it's knees. More bandwidth could not have hurt.
