Do you think he was serious...
... when he said Wintel will be replaced by web services, or is he trying to encourage a competitor to waste time and money?

Here's the quote:
The expansion of search infrastructure and search-based Web commerce will only speed up now that networks are 100 times faster than they were 10 years ago, there are broadband handhelds, the "Wintel" platform is being replaced by Web services, the ad business model has been proven and growth internationally is surging, he said.

The most significant point in tha list is that Google makes money by ads associated with search, and it's a growing business.

On top of that, faster connection speeds are supposed to have significance to a search business. Aside from gathering records of pages, it is difficult to see why faster connection speeds should be useful to the search function.

And the Wintel reference gets even farther from anything having to do with search or a portal offering search as one of its features.

So I conclude he's trying to encourage a view that has nothing to do with Google's core services, perhaps as a distraction.

Ah, gamesmanship.
