First, a better solution than "ordering IE to not be embeded" would to be to order a "Select your Search Choice" option with an automated install of the selected option(s). This should be within MS's technical capabilities. Then there would be no "high costs of stamping out CDs to get them to CompUSA".

As to "That is what happens when you write programs for a platform that is also your competition", that situation is EXACTLY what is wrong with the monopoly situation we have today. There is currently NO commonly used alternative to the Microsoft OS --- we're stuck with it -- for better or for worse. (Maybe someday, Linux will be on 50% of desktops, but not today.) The only viable platform for competative searches is the MS OS --- and until THAT situation is rectified, the playing field needs to be leveled --- preferably voluntarily, but by court order if necessary.
