If anybody finds a level playing field...
... be sure to let me know about it. My band, eristocracy, has been on MySpace for about 6 months. One of the things we were most interested in was seeing if anybody out there would listen to our music and like listening to it as much as we like playing it. There is no such thing as a control group for our little experiment. We have a few plays and a few friends, but we've stayed away from mass marketing tools intentionally. *Maybe* one day it will get to a point where we have an unmanagably large number of contacts, but guess what... if it gets clogged with marketing we'll quit using it, and so will everyone else who's tired of spam. I agree with previous posts that there is no definition of spam, but I think there is a fairly universal understanding of the relationship between a declining user base and advertising dollars. Rupert will step in and up the security or he'll lose one of his precious little cash cows.
