I love it when people who have no idea about how things work decide that something should be "easy to implement"...

On the surface, yes, this seems easy, but what she doesn't realize is the log files necessary to do what she is saying can get really big, really quickly. It's not as easy as "joe.blow@example.com => Joseph Blow, 1234 Anywhere Drive, Someplace, WA 12345", it's really "between 09:15 01/02/2006 and 09:43 01/02/2006, 1.2.3.4 was Joseph Blow....and between 10:11 01/02/2006 and 12:17 01/02/2006, 1.2.3.4 was Jane Schmoe...", and so on. If someone is virus infected, working on a connection, etc., there can be *hundreds* of connections in a day for a single user. Multiply that by the customer base of a large ISP, and that by 10, 20, or more years of service, and the amount of data that must be stored according to this proposal is staggering. If she wants to cap the amount of data that must be stored, say five years or so, *then* it's not such a bad idea, but to store it for the entire time someone is a customer???? No, that's just not practical.
