Wait wait WAIT!
I have ABOSLUTELY got to be sure that what I am reading is right.
This was the bold first part of the article that grabbed my attention:
>The French government has apparently reconsidered a proposal to force Apple Computer to make the songs it sells through its iTunes Music Store playable on devices that compete with its iPods. <
Now correct me if I am wrong but isn't FRANCE a part of the EU? If it isn't then I will apologize because the rest of this post is going to go under the assumption that it is.
No wthe EU has SLAMMED Microsoft for doing almost the SAME DAMN thing with regards to Windows and its OSes. It wants to force MS to make information available so others can compete with the iPod. And (again) forgive me if I am wrong but because APPLE called it piracy and ranted and charged in with lawyers blazing France changed it so that Apple wouldn't have to comply?!?
POT FLIPPING KETTLE BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't help but feeling that the EU in itself is being hypocritical in this situation. What I mean by that is they are making it ok for every other company to do what they are telling MS it is against the rules to do. I may not like MS but even *I* personally think that is wrong.
The article also states:
"It's kind of what a lot of folks expected," said Mike McGuire, vice president of research at analysis firm Gartner. "To pass such a law, the French were arguing that Apple is a monopoly, when, in fact, there are several services that the public can choose from."
Can't the same also be said for MS? How is this different? Apple could be considered a monopoly depending on where and what you look at. And if the had succeeded in declaring Apple a monopoly then they would have had to declare quite a few more companies (including those local to the EU) monopolies as well.
Then there were THESE two little snippets:
"Industry experts speculated that France fears cultural imperialism by U.S. technology companies.

"I think it's totally normal that the U.S. wants to be strong and protect their people and technology," Delanoe told CNET News.com through a translator. "But the rules have to be the same for everybody...The rules can't favor one country."
They are right the rules CAN't favor any one particular country or business. That much SHOULD be true. But it is NOT. I can't help but noticing that when it comes to ANYTHING associated with the USA that the automatic response is that the USA wants favoritism for its companies. I do not think that is the case. And I can't help but noticing that the EU countries tend to favor theirs above ones from other countries. That is generally how ANY country works. You can't blast a country or company for doing something that YOU YOURSELF do. It is just NOT right.
And I also can't help but wonder why everyone seems to think that the USA is responsible for all the worlds evils? How do they reach this conclusion? Yes you can bet I am ticked off.
