An educational experience
Don't overlook the other features of this rework:
* It is strictly IE-only. No non-Microsoft clients.
* It doesn't do mail forwarding.
* It doesn't do POP or IMAP.

Seventy-some US universites have signed on with Microsoft to use this as their student "e-mail" system, which means that students must have Microsoft systems to get University mail.

I'm sure that that was the result of customer demand.
